Construction should begin soon on a set of modern-style Old Fourth Ward homes overlooking Freedom Parkway, the latest contemporary offerings in the neighborhood’s pipeline. A couple of weeks ago, we brought you the news that a long-stalled cluster of five high-end houses on Bishop Way would be completed soon. Now developers are preparing to break ground on another pair of homes — these decidedly more modern — on Fortune Place, another side street off Glen Iris Drive but on the other side of Highland Avenue and Freedom Parkway. According to Jordache Avery of design firm Xmetrical, Fortune Place’s “Lot 1” will hold a two-story, 2,200 square-foot home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. “Lot 2” will host the three-story, 2,000 square-foot home shown in these renderings — three bedrooms, three bathrooms “plus loft.”

Avery said construction on Lot 1 “should start within the next three weeks,” with work on the other slated to begin a few weeks later. There are no firm price points, but they figure to be in the mid- to high-$500,000s. Size, cost and the barrier of Freedom Parkway aside, the upcoming Fortune Place properties couldn’t be more different than their counterparts across the way. Lot 1 is destined for a modern Prairie take, while Lot 2 is the epitome of modern, inside and out — clean lines with grays, whites and a little bit of wood mixed in.
